One tip you can take advantage of is preparing a checklist ahead of time. The checklist can either be in a notebook that you keep in your car or something you keep in your phone. Your car insurance company may have an app that you can install on your phone or other smart device. When you are in an accident, you can just pull up that app and use it. Otherwise, you can grab the paper that has your checklist on it to see what you need to do. If you are going to have a physical copy, you might want to keep it in with your insurance and registration information. 

Take Pictures

You are going to want to take pictures of everything associated with the accident. That includes damage to all the vehicles as well as any property damage that may happen. If you can, you may also want to try to take pictures of the other driver's information so that it is harder for you to lose. Before you start taking pictures of other people's belongings, be aware that they may tell you that they don't want you to take pictures. You need to respect their wishes. Don't try to take pictures of people unless you have asked their permission, just because you wouldn't want someone to take your picture without permission. 

Call the Police

The other driver may suggest that you don't call the police if the accident is pretty minor, but the fact is that you really should always call the police. You need to have a police report to submit to your insurance company when you report your accident. The police will come out to see the accident and talk to you, the other driver, and any witnesses that may be there, and then they will write up their report.
